With only 3 directors, 2 consultants and 10 staff based in our 2 offices we recognise the importance of our people being able to identify with our clients, and vice versa, maintaining a close mutual rapport each and every year.
Our clients do not just dial a number they phone a person the right person… dealing with their case. It is because of our close association that we get so many clients coming back and referring other clients to us.
We encourage all team members to build lasting working relationships with clients and are pleased that many of our clients consider this association to be an intrinsic part of their business.
George actually started the business in its original guise back in 1987, endeavouring to combine business experience gained from working in HM Inspector of Taxes, and latterly in the Financial Services Industry. He put this varied and versatile background to good use to revolutionise the way Accountants … not only work, but are perceived by the public. The man in the street … up until George opened up the first of several tax shops at various locations in Edinburgh … had never seen direct help and advice with matters of accountancy or tax made so openly available. “Self-Assessment spoken here”, became the constant window logo for all his tax shops backed-up inside with his staffs’ rapport with clients, and helpful open-door attitude to all customers. This modern way of making accountancy easy and generally available … particularly to small businesses, saw Gillespie grow into an established accountancy practise now looking after over 2,500 account and payroll customers, still highly recognisable for being very different from the rest. George despite his various business interests, still consults with new clients at both the Edinburgh and Leith offices, and in particular still makes time for his old clients delivering the same quality of service that enabled his practise to grow.
Karen manages the Inverleith office in Edinburgh. Karen started with George 17 years ago. She has since worked tirelessly to help assist our clients in all aspects of their businesses whilst simultaneously establishing the Gillespie profile. Karen in her 17 years has shown an adept skill for accountancy practices combining tax expertise with office organisation, which has seen her successfully rise through the ranks to now run the company’s head office.
Scott joined us in 2001 from another Edinburgh Accountancy company. Despite being traditionally trained in ‘old-fashioned’ accountancy methods, he very soon adapted to the open-door environment of Gillespies, and quickly built up a rapport with staff and clients alike. He now runs the Salamander Place office in Leith, and has a potential massive client bank in this burgeoning part of the city to cultivate and grow year on year.
